The microbreweries trend began in America . The editor remembers drinking Summit beer on a Us trip in 1991. In 1998 Mash opened probably the first restaurant with a microbrewery in the UK. It inspired Meantime in 2000 and Kernel in 2009 followed by many due to tax breaks etc. Now you can brew your own at the London Beer Lab in Brixton |

The Kernel brewery was founded by Hackney resident Evin O'Riordain, who started brewing in 2009. Evin had a background in food and drink, including three years at Neal's Yard, and a little home-brewing experience, but it was a trip to an American microbrewery that spurred him to start brewing on a larger scale..
