Kent is only about 90 miles north of Champagne. The chalky soils around the North Downs are very similar to the earth where famous Champagne producers plant their grapes. The success of Kent wine is largely due to the work of winemaker Stephen Skelton (2023 interview) who planted Chapel Down.
