In the late 1990s Bellenden Road underwent a major regeneration scheme. It resulted in improved shops and sreetfurniture from artists based in Southwark such as Antony Gormley (phallic bollards) and Tom Philips (lamposts and mosaics. This led to the influx of new shops and bars.
