The Dulwich College Surveyors, Sir Charles Barry and his son, developed the Dulwich Wood Estate from the late 1850s, mostly in the form of large detached houses. The best of the few surviving examples are in Dulwich Wood Avenue

The actress Margaret Lockwood (1916-1990) moved Highland Road, first to 18A and then to a bigger house at No. 30 in which they occupied the whole house. Upper Norwood was her home from 1920 to  1937.  Highland Rd was bombed during the war and her homes were destroyed.

There is a decommissioned nuclear bunker in Lunham Road. The 18-room bunker was constructed between 1963 and 1966 as part of a block of flats on the Central Hill Estate called Pear Tree House_
