Thomas a Becket
One of the most famous pubs in south London is set to open again as a club/restaurant/bar. The Thomas a Beckett has a long history linked to the Old kent Road as the pilgrim road to Beckett’s Shrine in Canterbury, As most people know in the Twentieth Century there was a boxing gym above where Henry Cooper trained. In fact locals can remember Muhammad Ali paying a visit! During this time it had a certain “reputation” and James Fox spent time there to research his role as a gangster in the iconic film Performance. The Thomas a Becket has undergone now a major refurbishment with a gleaming marble bar. Open early to late. More info
