Semi-detached housing from the inter-war years .Royal Circus (see 1862 map) was planned originally as a circle of villas by John Wilson and Allen Perring. Its spokes and outer wheel, were planned to cover the area between Canterbury Grove and Leigham Vale. The scheme failled but villas were built at the bottom of York Hill (mostly destroyed in WWII. Tonge House at the centre of the Circus, was bequeathed, by Bertha Portal in 1929, as a Home for Ladies.
