The Grove roads are situated on a hillside roads between Camberwell Church Street and Grove Hill Road, The area was developed on land from Dr Lettom’s Grove Hill house (demolished) and grounds (part of which is now Lettsom Gardens)  and the older Walnut Tree Walk (now Camberwell Grove) which led up to it. On of South London;s best Georgian streets. Camberwell Grove was originally known as Walnut Tree Grove.(shown on John Rocque’s map of 1745). In 1779 Dr Lettsom built a Villa (Grove Hill) at top of Walnut Tree Grove. It was sold in the 1810 and many Regency and early Victorian houses were built in its grounds. on what is now Camberwell Grove. A faux cottage (No 220) remains from the grounds.

Predominantly Victorian housing with good views of London. Named in 189* after Grove Hill, the house built for Dr Lettsom in 1779.  Grove Hill Road was built on its grounds  after the house was demolished. Part of the grounds remains as Lettsom’s Gardens (allotments).
